Ashlee Yates Flanagan, Ph.D.
DirectorDr. Yates Flanagan is a licensed psychologist and research psychologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She specializes in qualitative and mixed methods studies focused on culturally responsive and community engaged methodologies in autism, Black mothering across contexts, and examining the role of policing on Black psychological development.
Dr. Yates Flanagan earned her bachelor’s degree from Dillard University, she earned her master’s degree in counseling from New York University (NYU) and earned her doctorate in School Psychology from Tulane University.
In addition to directing the Resonance Lab, Dr. Yates Flanagan is a research collaborator across studies at CHOP’s Center for Autism Research, CHOP’s PolicyLab, and the Lifespan Brain Institute (LiBI), specifically utilizing her more than 15 years of qualitative expertise to lead qualitative and mixed methods studies that make meaning of cultural perspectives and experiences within autism and mothering practices, from the voice of Black caregivers. She incorporates her clinical training in autism into her research expertise, culminating in a focused program of research composed of three pillars: (1) the utilization and development of culturally responsive research methodologies, (2) the exploration of the systemic experience of Black maternal health, and (3) the application of intersectional and feminist approaches to understanding policing on Black psychological development. Dr. Flanagan’s emerging lines of research focus on (4) examining codeswitching and masking behaviors in Black youth and (5) the diagnostic experiences of Black autistic girls and women.
